The healers

Meet the Balian, Bali’s Village Healers

Balinese spiritual healing is practised by village healers known as balian or dukun. They channel taksu, a divine energy, and combine energy work, herbal remedies, massage and ritual cleansing with holy water and mantras.

Energy scanning is used to find blockages in the body or aura, so treatment can be targeted. Authentic healers work from family compounds, are found through local referrals and accept payment as a donation.

Choosing well

How to Choose a Healing Retreat

Programs run from weekend stays to multi-week journeys. Weigh these five points before you commit.

Healing retreats complement licensed medical care, never replace it. Serious conditions may need hospital treatment in Denpasar or another major city.

  4. 04

    Read the reviews

    Know your boundaries

Some sessions bring powerful emotional releases or intense physical sensations. Understand your health status and comfort levels first.
